Sauvignon Blanc Steinberg Reserve 2018
Our 40 years old Sauvignon Blanc vines grow in the far north-west of Langenlois, on around 360 m above sea level. The so-called Steinberg is one of the coolest slopes of the Kamptal. The mica schist bedrock of the vineyard is traversed by gneiss, quartz and dark amphibolites. Due to the exposure to the fresh westerly winds, the grapes ripen comparatively slowly here and develop an exotic and rich fruit character with delicate smoky minerality. Before bottling, the wine spends two years on the lees in small oak barrels.

The ripe grapes were selectively harvested by hand in mid-September and slightly crushed. After some hours of maceration they were gently pressed off with low pressure. Fermented in stainless steel tank, followed by two years of maturation in small oak barrels on the lees. Bottled at high atmospheric pressure during the waxing moon in August 2020.
Ripe and exotic fruit, a very elegant scent of mango and papaya, gooseberry, some pineapple, green tea, a cool and delicately smoky spicy note comes forward with some air; Juicy and polished on the palate, finely chiselled fruit, mango, cassis, also white berries, perfectly integrated oak, good tension with a salty-mineral vein, fantastic ageing potential!
