Vintage:
Grüner Veltliner Ried Schenkenbichl 2018
The grapes for this Veltliner are sourced from the highest elevated terraces of the Schenkenbichl vineyard, cultivated at an altitude of approximately 315 meters above sea level. In this location, our 60-year-old vines have formed a deep root system in the brittle, metamorphic rock soil, remnants from an ancient mountain range. The soil is primarily composed of dark amphibolite, which extends to the surface. The influence of this rocky soil is evident in the wines, which exhibit a cool and elegant character, accompanied by subtle fruit and a smoky salinity.
[1.ÖTW = Classified Vineyard, Erste Lage (Premier Cru)] [Ried = Austrian Term for single vineyard, same meaning as “Lage”]

Vinification
The grapes were selectively hand-harvested in mid and late September, destemmed, and lightly crushed. After several hours of maceration, they were gently pressed at low pressure. Partial whole-cluster pressing. Fermented in big oak barrel, followed by several months of aging on the lees. Bottled at high atmospheric pressure during the waxing moon in July 2019. 100% artisanal.
Wine description
Dark, smoky nose; a spicy entry, followed by cool, mineral accents and a captivating interplay of aromas of the finest tobacco and Mediterranean herbs. Bright citrus notes repeatedly flash through. On the palate, fruit and spice are interwoven—oregano, grapefruit, lemon apples, coniferous forest—alongside a salty, crystalline minerality. The backbone of acidity provides drive and emphasizes finesse.
