Vintage:
Riesling Ried Heiligenstein 2019
It is one of the most famed and best crus in Austria. The Heiligenstein vineyard is a unique geological formation within Europe; a geological island. The old vines grow on a complex sedimentary soil structure, on sandstone conglomerate with red arkoses and volcanic quartz porphyries. The narrow terraces yield a highly complex Riesling with strong personality.
[1.ÖTW = Classified Vineyard, Erste Lage (Premier Cru)] [Ried = Austrian Term for single vineyard, same meaning as “Lage”]

Vinification
The grapes were selectively harvested by hand in mid-October and slightly crushed. After some hours of maceration they were gently pressed off with low pressure. Fermented in stainless-steel and matured for several months on the lees. Bottled at high atmospheric pressure during the waxing moon in August 2020.
Wine description
Rich and multi-layered nose, ripe citrus fruit, pineapple, mango, the finest notes of saffron and turmeric in the deeper layers, noble and expressive, also floral notes; rich and fleshy as it spreads over the palate, loads of extract, yellow fruits, physalis, a little bit of mango, again delicately oriental, also a spicy forest scent, juicy interplay of fruit and acidity, warm elegancy, pure Heiligenstein-minerality!
