Grüner Veltliner Ried Thal 2023
Thal holds a special value to us as it is inextricably linked to the history of our estate. It is our oldest and most traditional vineyard, where our family first cultivated vines in 1856. The vines, some up to 80 years old, grow on a broadly terraced slope in the southern part of Langenlois, composed of quartz sand and bright, calcareous loess. Featuring delicate white and yellow fruits, cool spice, and its characteristic chalky minerality, the wine truly expresses the bright side of Grüner Veltliner.
[Ried = Austrian term for a single vineyard, it has the same meaning as "Lage"]

Vinification
Up to 80 years old vines. The grapes were selectively harvested by hand in various parts in late September and early October. Destemmed, slightly crushed and macerated for several hours. Gently pressed with low pressure. Fermented in stainless-steel and matured on the lees for several months. Bottled at high atmospheric pressure during the waxing moon in May 2024. 100% artisanal.
Wine description
Bright, chalky minerality on the nose, accompanied by white flowers, green mangoes, delicate apple, and lentils, with a cool, spicy note of lemon thyme. On the palate, citrus fruits and pome fruits intermingled with yellow fruits, grippy and mineral, a hint of finely ground white pepper, plenty of umami in the long finish.
