Grüner Veltliner Familienreserve 2011
Especially in the middle of the 20th century, it was common practice to bottle the best wines only after they have reached their first optimum drinking age. This beautiful tradition was also maintained by Ludwig I. and Dr. Bruno Hiedler, who left behind great wines, which we still enjoy. Today this tradition carries the name Familienreserve (Family Reserve). For our Familienreserve 2011, we put aside a small part of our best vintage-Veltliner which matured over 8 years in a traditional acacia cask on the lees. Now its time has come. This great wine combines creaminess and elegance with depth, finesse and an ethereal fruit-concentration.
By the way: The label is based on an old painting showing the winery in the 20s.

Old vines. Selective harvest by hand after various selections on the vine. Destemmed. Destemmed and crushed. Short maceration. Gently pressed off with low pressure. Without sulphurisation of the juice. Spontaneous fermentation in a big, traditional acacaia barrel. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Matured in cask on the lees for 8 years. Batonnage. Bottled at high atmospheric pressure during the waxing moon in August 2019.
Wine description
From the glass rises a wine with an ethereal and richly nuanced scent, expressive, ripe apples, some yellow grapes, roasted nuts, pepper berries, echoing with spicy aspects of thyme and fennel, very vital; incredible density as it rolls over the tongue, power and finesse balance each other, again yellow and green apples, Earl Grey, fleshy, very deep, creamy, mineral expression, great length!
